The Sky is Falling

Five year old, Charisse Littleton was sitting in her backyard playing with her dolls one afternoon. Out of nowhere, she felt something drop out of the sky and hit her in the head. "Hey!" she exclaimed jumping up and rubbing the sore spot on her head. She looked around to see what had hit her, but she didn't see anything or anyone. 'Oh no!' she thought worriedly. 'The sky must be falling!"

She left her dolls on the law and ran into the house to warn her family. She looked upstairs, downstairs, all around the house but she couldn't find her parents anywhere. Her little sister, Hatty.  was curled up on the couch under a big blue wool blanket watching TV. "Hatty!" exclaimed.  Charisse. Hatty didn't even pay attention. She just kept staring at the TV.  "Hatty!" Charisse said again stepping in front of the TV.

Hattiy sat up and looked as though she were going to burst into tears. She didn't like when anyone got between her and her favorite show Dora the Explorer. She opened her mouth, but before she could get a word out ...

Charisse shouted. "Hatty the sky is falling!"

Hatty looked up. It didn't look like the sky was falling, but Charisse was older and maybe she knew something Hatty didn't know. She looked at Charisse but didn't say a word.

"In the backyard, a piece of sky fell down and hid me in the head." Charise explained.

Hatty's eye's and mouth both opened wide, and she ran and hit behind the couch.

"You are not going to be safe there." declared Charisse pulling her little sister out from behind the couch and dragging her along. They trudged off in search of their parents.

Their parents were still nowhere to be found, but they did find their older sister, Deija. "What's the matter with you two wackadoodles?" asked Deija briefly looking up from her phone were she was scrolling through pictures of her latest crushes on Instagram.

"Where are Mom and Dad?" Charisse asked worriedly.

"They're out shopping." Deija told her "and that means I'm in charge so whatever it is the answer is no." she said with a smile going back to her phone.

"But the sky is falling!" Charisse exclaimed fearfully.

"Sky falling." added Hatty pointing up before worriedly going and hiding under Deija's bed.

"The sky is falling?" repeated Deija. She shook her head in disbelief. "What makes you think that?" she asked as she dragged Hatty out from under the bed. The little girl grabbed onto her older sister and clung to her.

"A piece of sky fell and hit me in the head when I was outside playing with my best dolls, Madeline and Zoey." Charisse explained.

Deija still looked doubtful. "Come on. Let's go find out what is really going on." she said as they headed downstairs with Hatty in her arms and Charisse following closely behind.

"What is going on is that the sky is falling!" insisted Charisse as they headed out to the backyard.

"Sky falling." repeated Hatty.

When they got to the backyard, Deija put Hatty down and she ran into the house. Deija started to look around, but she didn't see anything.

"Ouch." exclaimed Charisse as she felt something hit her in the head again. "The sky is falling! It's falling I tell you." she shouted as she began rubbing her sore head."We have to get out of here!"

Deija had her back to Charisse and was kneeling on the ground and hadn't seen anything. She stood up and turned around to calm her little sister down, but the minute she she opened her mouth to speak, she felt something hit her in the head. "Ouch!" she exclaimed rubbing her head.

"You see!" exclaimed Charisse with a mixture of excitement at being proved right and worry about what was going to happen next. "The sky is falling!"

Deija still wasn't convinced. She continued looking around on the ground. "Aha!" she exclaimed picking something off the ground.

"What is it?" asked Charisse worriedly ready to sprint for the house at any moment.  She didn't know whether to look  or hide her eyes. She wondered if it was possible to be blinded by a piece of sky.

"It's a peanut shell." announced Deija triumphantly shoving it under Charisse's nose. Then, she dropped it on the ground and looked up.

"There are peanut's in the sky?" asked Charisse in confusion.

"No. there are not." declared Deija continuing to look up. "Aha!" she said again pointing up.

Charisse looked up. There was their brother Foster sitting in a tree eating peanuts and dropping the shells on the ground.

Just then another peanut shell fell between the two girls narrowly missing hit one of them in the head again. "Foster!" shouted Deija angrily pointing up.

Charisse said nothing. She was just too relieved that the sky wasn't falling to be angry.

Wylie Wants to Be a Boy

Waverly Pinkerton was a girly girl. Her little sister, Wylie not so much. It wasn't just that Wylie was a tomboy. It was almost like she wanted to be a boy. Waverly was horrified.

When Mommy took them to get haircuts, Waverly just got a trim. Wylie wanted her haircut extremely boyishly short. "Are you sure that's what you really want?" asked Mommy. Wylie nodded confidentally.

"Wylie!" exclaimed Waverly in horror. "All the other girls in your grade have long hair. Do you want to look like a boy?" Wylie shrugged and didn't seem to care. "Mom," cried Waverly turning to their mother. "Don't you care that she's acting like a boy?"

Mom just smiled. "She'll grow out of it." she said confidentally.

As the stylist took her scissors to Wylie's hair, Waverly looked away. She couldn't stand to see all that pretty hair being cut away.

When it was picture day at school. Waverly wore a pretty pink dress. Wylie wanted to wear a pants. "Don't you want to wear a nice dress?" urged Waverly. "I'll help you pick out one." She went into Wylie's closet but there were't any a dresses. She went back and forth through the closet several times but still couldn't find one. "What happened to your dresses?" she finally asked her sister worriedly .

"I don't wear dressed anymore." declared Wylie. She happily picked out a pair of pants and a shirt to wear to picture day. They were both kind of plain. She showed them to their mother who nodded in approval.

"Mom!" exclaimed Waverly. "Don't you care that Wylie is acting like a boy?"

Mom just smiled. "She'll grow out it." Mom assured her.

Wylie continued to act in ways that set her apart from the other girls. If all the girls were sitting quietly on the playground while the boys were running around, Wylie would be running around with the boys. If all the girls, were talking about hair and makeup and whatever girls talk about. Wylie would be talking with the boys about sports and cars and whatever boys talk about.

"Really, Mom," declared Waverly worriedly one day "What will you do if she doesn't grow out of it?" By now,  it was very clear to Waverly if not to their mother that maybe Wylie would not grow out it.

Mom just smiled, looked Waverly right in the eye and simply replied. "I will just love her the way she is just like I do now."
